The United Arab Emirates and the Lebanese Republic share longstanding fraternal relations founded on close historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties.
In line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Embassy in Beirut officially resumed diplomatic activities on January 24, 2025. This important step reflected the UAE’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and supporting the stability and development of the Lebanese Republic.
Relations between the two countries continue to advance across political, economic, cultural, and developmental fields. The UAE reaffirms its support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic, as well as for the role of its national institutions in promoting security and stability. Both countries remain committed to expanding cooperation in a manner that serves their mutual interests and contributes to the prosperity and wellbeing of their brotherly peoples.
The United Arab Emirates and the Lebanese Republic share longstanding economic and commercial relations, supported by strong ties between their business communities and continued interest in expanding trade and investment opportunities.
The UAE has historically been a significant source of Arab investment in Lebanon. Between 2003 and 2016, the value of UAE direct investment projects in Lebanon reached approximately USD 7.8 billion, accounting for 64.8% of the total value of Arab investment projects recorded during that period.
Economic engagement continued in 2025. During January and February, UAE exports to Lebanon reached approximately USD 132 million, while Lebanese exports to the UAE amounted to approximately USD 69 million, with bilateral non-oil trade reaching USD 4.2 billion, representing growth of 35.6% compared with 2024.
This momentum was further advanced during the UAE–Lebanon Business Forum, held in Beirut in August 2026. The Forum brought together government officials and private-sector leaders from both countries to explore trade and investment opportunities across a range of priority sectors, including logistics, food security and agriculture, healthcare, energy, aviation, artificial intelligence, tourism, infrastructure, and digital transformation. The Forum also witnessed the establishment of the Joint UAE–Lebanon Business Council and the signing of four memoranda of understanding aimed at creating structured channels for cooperation, facilitating investment opportunities, strengthening institutional ties, and supporting partnerships between the two countries’ business communities.
The United Arab Emirates and the Lebanese Republic continue to build on this positive momentum by expanding trade flows and cooperation in trade, investment, logistics, food security, healthcare, energy, tourism, technology, and other priority sectors, and encouraging mutually beneficial investment, and advancing sustainable economic partnerships that contribute to the development and prosperity of both countries and their peoples.
The United Arab Emirates and the Lebanese Republic share distinguished cultural and educational relations that reflect the longstanding ties between their peoples. Cooperation between the two countries encompasses literature, education, academic research, cultural exchange, and initiatives that promote the Arabic language, knowledge, and intercultural dialogue.
Lebanese students participate actively in the Arab Reading Challenge, which encourages younger generations across the Arab world to develop a lasting engagement with reading in Arabic. Academic cooperation is further reflected through the Sheikh Zayed Chair for Arabic and Islamic Studies at the American University of Beirut. Established through an endowment by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Chair supports teaching, academic research, publications, and scholarly exchange in Arabic, Islamic, and Middle Eastern studies.
Cultural ties are also strengthened through initiatives such as the Emirati-Lebanese House, which provides a platform for activities highlighting the shared cultural heritage, historical connections, and close bonds between the Emirati and Lebanese peoples. These initiatives contribute to advancing knowledge, fostering dialogue, and strengthening cultural understanding between the two countries.
