UAE Embassy Empowers 100 Women Through Vocational Training

Abuja, Nigeria- The United Arab Emirates Embassy in Abuja embarked on a 40-day skills acquisition programme for under privileged women in the suburbs of the Federal Capital Territory. The initiative was organized by the UAE embassy in Abuja, in partnership with Sharjah Charity International, a UAE-based charity organization, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The empowerment initiative was executed in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and Aids for Women Adolescents and Children International Organization (AWACIO). On October 18th, the officials of the NCFRMI and AWACIO at the official flag off ceremony expressed optimism that the skillsets that would be imparted on these women will improve their socio-economic standards. The UAE ambassador to Nigeria Dr. Fahad Al Taffaq said the programme was aimed at providing a platform for women’s social development and sustainability that would allow them acquire valuable skills, create employment and alleviate poverty in the society. Also in attendance for the programme inauguration was the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, H.E. Sadiya Farouk, who said the vocational training would have a huge impact on the women, their families, communities and the nation as a whole. After the 40-day training period, the women were provided with the necessary work equipment to facilitate their economic independence, thereby contributing immensely to the growth of their immediate family and by extension the society.
