H.E. Shaikh Saoud Ali Almualla, Consul General of the UAE in Hong Kong, attended the cultural session “Hidden Stories of the UAE: Culture, Heritage and the Art of Writing”, as part of the program presented by Emirates Publishers Association during the Hong Kong Book Fair 2026. Bringing together Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam and Obaid Ibrahim Boumelha, the conversation explored the unique characters of Emirati storytelling and the role of literature in preserving heritage and safeguarding the stories that have shaped the UAE’s cultural identity.

H.E. Shaikh Saoud Ali Almualla, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates in Hong Kong, met with the Hon. Chris Tang, Secretary for Security of the HKSAR Government. During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and exchange views on topics of mutual interest.

As part of the United Arab Emirates’ firm commitment to achieving its climate goals, H.E. Shaikh Saoud Ali Almualla, UAE Consul General in Hong Kong, held a meeting with Mr. Ringo Mok, Director of the Drainage Services Department of the HKSAR Government, and his team, to exchange views on sustainability, climate resilience, green infrastructure, renewable energy, and flood management.

In April 2026, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, concluded an official visit to the People’s Republic of China, aimed at further enhancing the UAE-China comprehensive partnership across priority sectors advancing economic and development cooperation between the two nations. During the visit, His Highness met H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, and H.E. Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council, to further strengthen bilateral relations and advance cooperation to new horizons across key areas of shared strategic interest.

On the occasion of the Asian Financial Forum, UAE Ambassador to China H.E. Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance H.E. Younis Haji Al Khoori, and UAE Consul General in Hong Kong H.E. Shaikh Saoud Almualla met with Hong Kong Financial Secretary the Hon. Paul Chan to discuss how to advance the robust and expanding bilateral economic ties between UAE and Hong Kong/China.

UAE Ambassador to China H.E. Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi and UAE Consul General in HK H.E. Shaikh Saoud Almualla had a meeting with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing CEO Bonnie Chan and her team, to discuss HKEX’s recent developments in the UAE and its expansion plans in the future.

UAE Ambassador to China H.E. Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance H.E. Younis Haji Al Khoori, and UAE Consul General in HK H.E. Shaikh Saoud Almualla had a meeting with HK Chief Executive John Lee, and Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Christopher Hui. They noted the strong growth of UAE-HK bilateral ties in economy and trade, investment, finance and technology since Lee’s UAE visit in 2023. Both sides look forward to seizing more future opportunities in light of the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative.

On 24th February 2022, the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates co-hosted an online event in partnership with the University of Hong Kong’s Gender Studies Programme titled “Women Making an Impact in the Middle East to Create a Better World”, which focused on the first-of-its-kind Women’s Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, a Special Pavilion co-hosted with Cartier.

On 9th November 2021, the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates co-hosted an online event in partnership with Hong Kong International Literary Festival (HKILF), aptly themed “The Rebound Edition” this year as society slowly adapts to the post-pandemic new normal. Titled “An Ocean Away”, the event featured Emirati-Italian author and artist Alia Alshamsi, and Hong Kong poet and translator Jennifer Wong, in a cross-cultural poetic journey with Poet and Associate Professor at the Hong Kong Baptist University, James Shea.

On 20th October 2021, the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates hosted a webinar titled “In celebration of Expo 2020 Dubai: A conversation on sustainable architecture” bringing together industry experts with extensive experience on prominent projects in the UAE and Hong Kong to discuss how the Expo in general, provides a blueprint for a sustainable future, with special focus on Terra, the Pavilion dedicated to sustainability.
