Diplomatic relations between Poland and the United Arab Emirates were established in 1989 and have grown in the last decade to evolve into strategic partnership.
There are more than 20 agreements signed between the two countries in various fields. The history of relations between Poland and the UAE dates back to the year 1988 when Poland expressed desire to tighten bilateral relations with the UAE.
Following the opening of the Polish Trade Office in Dubai in 1988, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Abu Dhabi was opened on November 1991.
The UAE opened its Embassy in Poland in May 2009, which constituted a very important step in strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
Opening of the Embassy by the UAE reflected in the intensification of cooperation between the countries, mainly in the area of trade and economy.
In recent years, the UAE has become a key partner of Poland in the Arab world in the context of political dialogue and economic cooperation.
Political commitment to cooperation in various areas was confirmed during the exchange of visits on the highest level: the visit of the Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, the Ruler of Dubai in Poland in June 2015, the visit of the President of the Republic of Poland in the UAE in December 2013 and the visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland in the UAE in April 2012. Relations on parliamentary level were also established.
For nearly a decade the United Arab Emirates have been Poland's largest economic and trade partner in the Arab world.
There are many economic agreements signed between the two countries: the Agreement for Economic Cooperation that established a Joint Economic Committee, agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation, agreement on promotion and protection of investment, on maritime transport, MoU in the field of small and medium enterprises and innovation.
The UAE look forward to further strengthening the cooperation with Poland in all areas, this desire was expressed during the bilateral visits of representatives of both countries.
Cultural cooperation between Poland and the United Arab Emirates is strong and is constantly developing. Our embassy in Warsaw supports and promotes various cultural activities that brings together our countries. Most important cultural events:
- October 2019: HH Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah visited Cracow and attend the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Oriental Studies at the Jagiellonian University. HH was conferred the Plus Ratio Quam Vis Gold Medal in recognition of his support to the cultural and civilisational exchange between nations.
- June – October 2019 first solo exhibition by an Emirati artist in Poland: Abdul Qader Al Rais exhibition, 'The Power of Colour', was on display at the National Museum in the northern Polish city of Gdańsk. The exhibition was held under the patronage of Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State.
- In 2018 Poland was the Guest of Honour for Abu Dhabi International Book Fair ADIBF 2018.
