the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Riga welcomed ten students as part of Latvia’s nationwide Shadow Day initiative, providing them with a valuable opportunity to gain insight into diplomatic service.
Her Excellency Noora Juma, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Latvia and Lithuania, together with members of the Embassy, welcomed students from Ventspils State Gymnasium No. 1, Āgenskalns State Gymnasium, J.G. Herder Riga Grīziņkalns Secondary School, Jūrmala State Gymnasium, Jelgava Spīdola State Gymnasium, Baldone Secondary School, and Mārupe Gymnasium.
“I believe that investing in youth engagement is essential for building resilient andforward-looking societies. By connecting students with practical, real-world experiences, we contribute to the development of informed and motivated individuals prepared to engage in international dialogue and cooperation,” the Ambassador stated.
The program commenced at the embassy, where students were introduced to the daily work of diplomats and the role of the embassy in advancing relations between the United Arab Emirates and Latvia, as well as Lithuania. Subsequently, accompanied by the ambassador, the students visited the UAE development company “Riga Waterfront,” where they were acquainted with ongoing international development initiatives. The visit continued with a meeting at the Latvian company “Longenesis,” which maintains close cooperation with partners in the United Arab Emirates in the fields of innovation and digitalization, providing students with further insight into bilateral collaboration.
The program concluded with a closing session and working lunch, during which participants reflected on the day’s activities and exchanged views on the importance of international cooperation and future professional opportunities.
“The enthusiasm, curiosity, and openness demonstrated by the students were truly commendable. Initiatives such as Shadow Day play an important role in fostering mutual understanding and encouraging the next generation to engage thoughtfully and responsibly with global challenges,” the ambassador added.
