United Arab Emirates Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg Celebrates International Day of Human Fraternity

Sun 04/2/2024

As the world marks the International Day of Human Fraternity on the 4th of February, the government of the United Arab Emirates and the UAE Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg, H.E. Mohammed Al-Sahlawi, reiterate the UAE's commitment to fostering unity, tolerance, and understanding among diverse communities.

This day resonates deeply with the values that the UAE upholds and actively promotes within its borders and on the international stage. The UAE believes, as an inclusive and diverse nation, that we have the collective power to create harmony among the people of the world without requiring uniformity.

In highlighting the UAE's ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation as a means to build bridges of understanding among nations, Ambassador Al-Sahlawi noted:

“The UAE has consistently championed initiatives that foster mutual respect, recognizing that diversity is a source of strength and enrichment for societies worldwide. In the spirit of human fraternity, the UAE continues to work towards creating a world where people from various walks of life can coexist harmoniously. Ensuring we build and safeguard peaceful, tolerant and inclusive societies, free from discrimination and violence, and where women, youth, vulnerable groups, and marginalized communities are empowered and given a voice, is paramount.”

The UAE is a champion in implementing unique initiatives that support the diffusion of human fraternity values. These initiatives include education systems that teach these values from the youngest age, support joint actions among religious institutions, or advocate for the protection of the earth’s ecosystems, addressing the climate crisis and ecological degradation heads on. They also ensure that we partner and work in close cooperation with states, international organizations, and other bodies to support common objectives.

Ambassador Al-Sahlawi expresses gratitude for the unity and solidarity demonstrated by the international community and by the European Union on this occasion. He echoes the call from leaders around the world calling for renewed global efforts to build a world where tolerance and understanding prevail, where dialogue is the first solution, and where all individuals can live together in peace, harmony, and respect.

The Embassy invites members of the media, diplomatic community, and the public to join in celebrating the International Day of Human Fraternity, as we collectively strive to create a more inclusive and compassionate world, one where all people are inspired to live the values of human fraternity.

The International Day of Human Fraternity was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2020, and was inspired by the global reaction to the historic signing of the Document on Human Fraternity by two great religious leaders, His Holiness Pope France and His Eminence Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayed in Abu Dhabi on 4 February 2019.
