The Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates in São Paulo congratulates the Brazilian non-governmental organisation Expedicionários da Saúde (EDS), based in Campinas, State of São Paulo, on winning the 2023 Zayed Sustainability Prize in the Health category.
Established in 2008 to honour the legacy of the UAE's Founding Father, HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Zayed Sustainability Prize is the UAE's pioneering global award recognising impactful, innovative, and inspiring solutions across Health, Food, Energy, Water, Climate Action, and Global High Schools.
Expedicionários da Saúde was recognised for its Mobile Hospital Complex, which delivers surgical and medical care to indigenous and riverside communities in remote areas of the Amazon. The organisation has performed more than 1,900 surgeries to date, reaching populations with no alternative access to healthcare. As part of the award, EDS received USD 600,000 to expand its humanitarian impact.
This achievement reflects the deep values shared by the UAE and Brazil — a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the well-being of the most vulnerable communities. The Consulate General remains committed to fostering connections between both nations in these areas.
