United Arab Emirates and European Union Strengthen Bilateral Partnership at Fourth Senior Officials' Meeting

The fourth Senior Officials' Meeting between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the European Union (EU) took place today in Brussels, marking a significant step forward in the comprehensive bilateral partnership established under the Cooperation Arrangement between the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

The UAE delegation was led by Mr. Abdulrahman Alneyadi, Director of the European Affairs Department at MOFA, while the EU delegation was led by Her Excellency Helen Le Gal, the Managing Director for the MENA Region at the European External Action Service (EEAS). The meeting aimed to further solidify the partnership based on the 2022 EU Joint Communication for a Strategic Partnership with the Gulf.

Discussions during the meeting focused on critical issues within the framework of three key Working Groups: "Trade and Economic Diversification", "Security and Counter-Terrorism", and "Global Agenda". Both parties explored a wide range of mutual interests, including:

  • Trade and Investment: Emphasizing the importance of economic diversification, both sides discussed strategies to enhance bilateral trade and investment, seeking to foster sustainable economic growth and innovation.

  • Security and Counter-Terrorism: The discussions underscored the shared commitment to preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism. Broader security matters, including collaborative efforts to enhance regional stability, were also addressed.

  • Global Agenda: The meeting covered significant global issues such as climate change, the green transition, and development cooperation. Operational priorities in humanitarian assistance, education, research, and innovation were highlighted to deepen cooperation and intensify synergies.

Mr. Abdulrahman Alneyadi stated, "Today's meeting is a testament to the strong and growing partnership between the UAE and the EU. We are committed to working together to address common challenges and seize opportunities that benefit both our regions."

The next Senior Officials' Meeting is scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi in 2025, continuing the ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the UAE and the EU
