The United Arab Emirates embassy was opened in Nouakchott in 1994.
His Excellency Issa Hamad Boushehab, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Kingdom of Morocco, presented his credentials to the Mauritanian President as a non-resident ambassador on September 26, 1993.
Thus, the diplomatic representation of the state in Nouakchott was limited to the level of a charge d’affaires who managed the affairs of the embassy until July 2008, when His Excellency Abdullah Mohamed El-Takawi was named as the first resident ambassador of the country to Mauritania, and he presented his credentials to the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on October 04, 2009.
On March 17, 2014, the current ambassador, His Excellency Issa Abdullah Masoud Al Kalbani, was appointed as the country's ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
H.E. presented his credentials to His Excellency the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on July 21, 2014.
