  • Bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Federal Republic of Brazil were formally established in 1974. 
  • The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Brazil was established in Abu Dhabi in 1978. The UAE established its Embassy in Brasilia, the first in Latin America, in 1991. Since then, the two countries have strengthened relations in all fields, especially in the economic ones. 
  • The high level of trade and economic exchange witnessed by the U.A.E. and the Federal Republic of Brazil, particularly with the state of São Paulo, led to the opening of a Consulate in São Paulo. 
  • The state of São Paulo is the commercial hub of the South American continent, receives almost 50% of all direct foreign investment (FDI) made in Brazil, has 80% of Brazilian companies and it is home of the largest port in Latin America, Port of Santos, where cargo is shipped to all parts of the world.
  • Bilateral relations between the UAE and Brazil have witnessed a major rise in political and economic development, which have been strengthened by official visits from both countries. 
  • His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, visited Brazil in 2014. 
  • His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, visited Brazil in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2019. 
  • Up to now, many ministers such as His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy, His Excellency Mohammed bin Ahmad Al Bawardi, Minister of State for Defense Affairs and Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, Minister of State for Food Security, have also visited Brazil. From the Brazilian side, His Excellency Jair Bolsonaro, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, visited the Emirates in October 2019, and Michel Timer, then the Vice President, visited the United Arab Emirates in November 2013. 
  • Progress in bilateral political relations during the past decade has been accompanied by the consolidation of economic relations. Since 2008, the United Arab Emirates has become the second trading partner in the Middle East for Brazil.
