  • The history of friendly relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Cyprus dates back to the 1960s, especially in the economic sector. The two countries decided to establish official diplomatic relations in 2007, particularly on June 6, 2007, upon signing the official agreement to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries at ambassadorial level.
  • Accordingly, the UAE accredited the first Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Abu Dhabi in 2009, in addition to the presence of the Cyprus Tourism Organization Office (Office of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism) and the Cyprus Trade Center in Dubai.
  • On the other hand, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates opened in the Cypriot capital Nicosia on 31 March 2015, marking the presentation of the credentials of the first UAE Resident Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Abdulwahab Nasser Al-Najjar to H.E. Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, President of the Republic of Cyprus.
  • Soon after, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the UAE Embassy was officially inaugurated on June 11, 2016 in the presence of H.E. Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, President of the Republic of Cyprus.
  • In this context, the two countries have worked in recent years to strengthen and develop the bilateral relations based on the principles of mutual respect and cooperation in various fields. This has been reflected in the increase in the number of signed agreements and the exchange of official high-level visits between the two countries, whether at the parliamentary, ministerial, or presidential level.
