  • The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Colombo is pleased to welcome UAE Citizens to the island of Sri Lanka which is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the world. It is the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, which was known as ‘Serendib’ in ancient times, and subsequently came to be called ‘Ceylon’ until the year 1972. Today it is officially known as the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

  • Sri Lanka is a large island located around 31 kilometers off the southern shores of the Indian sub-continent. It covers a land area of 65,610 square kilometers, and has a population of around 21 million people. Sri Lanka is famous for its fun tourist destinations and stunning landscapes. Sri Lankan people are friendly and treat visitors kindly.

  • UAE Nationals wishing to visit Sri Lanka are recommended to visit the official tourism website at https://www.srilanka.travel , which covers everything one needs to know about visiting Sri Lanka.

  • The Embassy calls upon all UAE citizens visiting Sri Lanka, to maintain caution in dealing with unknown and unrecognized groups, and to avoid areas in which problems may exist or in the event of natural disasters such as floods and landslides. It is also advised to always communicate with approved and known tourism companies and to communicate with the Embassy when facing any problems.

  • The UAE nationals are also advised to take precautions and avoid the infection of the dangerous Dengue Fever, which spreads through mosquitoes.

Visa Procedure:

  • The Sri Lankan Government introduced a new law to obtain Visas via the internet since 1st February 2012. Foreigners can obtain prior approval for visas through the ETA system at http://eta.gov.lk/slvisa. On arrival visas will continue to be issued for citizens of selected countries including UAE. It is compulsory to obtain entry visas.
