  • The diplomatic relation between the UAE and China was established in November 1984. The Chinese Embassy in Abu Dhabi was opened in April 1985, and the General Consulate was established in Dubai in November 1988. 
  • The UAE Embassy was opened in Beijing on March 19, 1987. Three general consulates of the UAE were established in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shanghai, in April 2000, July 2009 and June 2016 respectively. 
  • The historic visit of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the UAE (may God rest his soul) to the People's Republic of China on May 6, 1990, is considered as one of the most important visits of the UAE high officials to China, which resulted in signing of many agreements. 
  • There are many official visits being exchanged between the two countries, at different levels, starting from presidents, heads of government, ministers, governors and heads of parliaments. The most prominent high official visit is the recent visit by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces to China in 2019, during which the two sides celebrated the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations.
  • His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai also visited China in the same year to attend the Belt & Road Forum. 
  • From the Chinese side, the visit of former Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in 2004, to the UAE is considered as one of important visits by Chinese leaders to the UAE, during which the declaration of the strategic partnership between the two countries was signed. 
  • The most recent visit is the historic visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the UAE in 2018, during which the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries was signed, which is considered as a highest level in the Chinese diplomatic relations. 
  • The policy of the UAE is based on the principles of peace, tolerance, openness and dialogue. With other cultures and building bridges of communication and cooperation with the international community to enhance security and stability and achieve sustainable economic development worldwide. 
  • The UAE relations with the People's Republic of China is an outstanding example of good bilateral relations, based on mutual respect and mutual trust, which is compatible with these principles, as China supports the policies and measures taken by the UAE to respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, while the UAE supports One-China policy.
  • Both countries hold the principle of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and solve contentious issues by peaceful means.
