The United Arab Emirates and the Federal Republic of Germany share a strong and increasingly diversified economic partnership, underpinned by growing trade and investment ties and cooperation across strategic sectors, including energy, industry, technology, and financial services. Building on their respective strengths and expertise, both countries continue to pursue new opportunities for investment, joint ventures, and knowledge exchange. This cooperation is supported by established institutional frameworks, including the UAE-German Joint Economic Commission, the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK), established in 2025, and the Emirati-German Energy Partnership, launched in 2017.
Economic cooperation gained further momentum in 2025 and 2026, with several significant agreements and investments across strategic sectors. In February 2026, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and Germany’s RWE signed a memorandum of understanding to explore investments in battery energy storage projects with a capacity of up to 1 GW, as well as the potential development of additional projects of a similar capacity. In July 2025, ADNOC Gas and Germany’s state-owned Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) signed a three-year agreement for the supply of 0.7 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas, valued at approximately USD 400 million.
Investment ties have also expanded across other sectors. XRG’s acquisition of Germany-based Covestro included a EUR 1.17 billion capital increase, while Deutsche Bank expanded its presence in the UAE through a new license in Abu Dhabi Global Market. Cooperation in emerging technologies has also advanced, with the Dubai Future Foundation and the Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg signing a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on testing artificial intelligence technologies.
